West Brom succumbed to a seventh straight game without a victory as their quest to clinch the Championship title was put in serious jeopardy on Monday night.
The Baggies were defeated 2-1 by Cardiff City in the Welsh capital on a night where nearest rivals Leeds United came from behind to take sole possession of first place.
Albion striker Charlie Austin equalised from the spot in the 65th minute, either side of two Bluebirds goals as Callum Paterson opened the scoring just after the break before substitute Lee Tomlin fired in the winner from a free-kick.
It’s safe to suggest that fans are far from pleased with another poor showing from Slaven Bilic’s side and they have taken aim at midfielder Romaine Sawyers for his performance in the heart of midfield.
Here’s what they have been saying…
The 28-year-old was described as being the “biggest mystery” as well as “the problem” following yesterday’s shocking loss.
Others couldn’t remember when his last good game was as he simply isn’t mobile enough to operate a central midfield position.
It has led to calls for Sawyers to be dropped from Bilic’s starting XI despite playing every league game he’s been available for this campaign.
“Absolutely awful” was a shout from one supporter…
There were also question marks raised over his partnership alongside Jake Livermore as some fans felt that the pair offered too similar qualities to warrant a start each.
Whilst one member of the Hawthorns faithful went as far as suggesting that Sawyers’ work rate was that dire, he would make Dimitar Berbatov’s look decent, labelling the academy grad as “shambles.”
West Brom’s season is going from bad to worse, as epitomised by the performance of Sawyers against Cardiff, but one positive is the fact that they still remain firmly in a healthy position to still gain promotion this season.
Who the heck is that?! Can you name all of these obscure West Brom players…
And in other news, West Brom keen on adding colossus who would be an upgrade to Semi Ajayi…
