Liverpool recently announced that one of the club’s key players Sadio Mane had put pen to paper on a new five-year contract.
But on top of the Senegal forward, another important figure among Jurgen Klopp’s squad could also be looking to secure his long-term future at Anfield in the coming weeks.
The Breakdown
Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is now seen as Liverpool’s first-choice right-back having impressed manager Jurgen Klopp since breaking into the first team, has a contract that is up in 2021.
However, the Liverpool youth product has made it clear that he has no intentions of playing for another club.
“To play for Liverpool is the dream, the aim, and I can’t see it changing to be fair,” Alexander-Arnold recently told Sky Sports. As long as possible I want to have that relationship with Liverpool, to be a Liverpool player. To say I have done that for the whole of my career is something I have dreamed of being able to say.”
According to the Times, with Mane tied down to a new deal, Liverpool will now look to enter contract talks with Alexander-Arnold in what would be a very wise move made by the club.
Despite being just 20 years of age, £31.5m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Alexander-Arnold is probably one of the leading right-backs in the Premier League and is well on his way to become the best.
In attack, he has the pace to get past an opposition player and the ability to put in a dangerous cross, while in his own half he shows a lot of maturity when it comes to defending for someone his age.
Bearing that in mind, if the England international stays at Anfield during the peak years of his career, he could become a Liverpool legend.
