Leeds’ strikers have been a bit hit and miss this season.
Patrick Bamford may have hit form recently, but he did go ten games without a goal earlier in the season, and Eddie Nketiah has scored just once in his last eight appearances.
Therefore, it should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody that United are now chasing a new attacking option.
What’s the story then?
Leeds are apparently set to take Norwich on in the race for Renaud Emond’s signature according to The Sun.
The Canaries are apparently in the market for a striker as they look to bolster their frontline in a bid to stay in the Premier League.
The newspaper report that a bid of around £3m would be enough to secure the attacker’s services, so bringing him in wouldn’t break the bank for Leeds.
Better than Roofe
Of course, signing a player from a league such as the Belgian first division is a bit of a gamble as that division doesn’t necessarily host the highest standard of football.
Luckily there’s quite an easy barometer to measure Emond against as one of Leeds’ former strikers is currently plying his trade in the same league as him.
Indeed, many Leeds fans will have fond memories of Kemar Roofe’s time at Elland Road, but they’ll be glad to know that their new transfer target is actually outperforming the former United striker over in Belgium.
Emond has netted at a rate of one goal every 130.6 minutes this term, which is quite a bit better than Roofe’s 178.4, and with Leeds’ xG indicating that they need a goalscorer more than anything those are some quite encouraging figures.
Whether or not this deal gets done remains to be seen, but it looks as if United could be on to a winner if they sign the 28-year-old.
At present, Emond has scored seven goals compared to Roofe’s five in the Belgian Pro League.
Meanwhile, it seems as if Leeds’ selection dilemma may have a rather simple solution.
