Bayern Munich and England star Harry Kane, who is a huge golf fan, has been revelling in a dramatic Ryder Cup win for Team Europe. Heading into the final day of that event, it appeared as those the away side at Bethpage Black in New York would ease their way to the most convincing of victories. That is not how things played out, with Kane among those to see their nerves shredded before an iconic trophy was finally retained by Luke Donald's troops.
Thrilling finish to Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York
Team Europe led by seven points following the first two days of action in the United States and, following an injury to Viktor Hovland, required only two from 11 singles matches on Sunday in order to retain the Ryder Cup – with a further half-point needed in order to confirm that success outright.
The Americans, though, refused to throw in the towel, with passionate home support – which crossed the line at times when it comes to taunts aimed in the direction of Rory McIlroy and Co – inspiring Keegan Bradley’s team to stage the most unlikely of comebacks. With points picked up through the early matches, Team USA dared to dream that a miraculous win was possible.

That ambition was eventually extinguished, as Shane Lowry sank the put which took Europe to the 14-point mark, and the contest ultimately finished 15-13 in favour of Donald’s men – leading to an outpouring of emotion from players, staff, family and friends. Plenty of famous faces had also been on hand across the weekend to catch some of the action live.
Kane was unable to head over the Atlantic, with the Three Lions captain very much focused on his day job at Bayern Munich, but he made a point of tuning in from afar. He was up late on Sunday evening, as the action extended towards midnight in Munich, and was left celebrating as Europe condemned the USA to a first defeat on American soil since the legendary Miracle of Medinah in 2012. Kane posted on social media, alongside an image of Donald’s victorious team: "Wow, what an intense final day! Massive congratulations @rydercupeurope! Special away win in the Ryder Cup!"
GettyCareer change: Could Kane become a pro golfer?
Kane will likely be hitting the course himself at some point this week, with the 32-year-old making no secret of his other sporting passions. He has rubbed shoulders with several professional golfers, putting his game to the test in the process. Kane has previously told : "I’ve been lucky enough to play with some of the best pros, and it’s just a different ball game for them. It really is the consistency. I’m able to have probably one great round in in 20. These guys are having 20 great rounds in 25, or maybe even better, especially when you’re looking at the best players in the world. So just that consistency, and it comes down to practice. I look at how I got to where I am now in football, the hours of dedication, the hours of hard work and hours on the training pitch. It all adds up to, you know, perfecting their craft. And then that’s what those guys have done to perfect their craft in in the golf game, the amount of hours they spend on the chipping green and the putting green and on the range."
Kane boasts a single-figure handicap and, having already generated talk of exploring a route into NFL placekicking once his football career is over, has not ruled out a run at the professional golf ranks. He added on potentially pursuing that target: "I’d still say ‘never say never’, because I don’t like to rule anything out. It takes such a lot of time and dedication, it would be really, really, really tough. I think sometimes people don’t appreciate how much work goes into it. You watch it on the TV and you see them doing it so effortlessly and you think ‘I could have a go at that’, but it’s really tough. I’d never say never, but I think it’s really unlikely that will happen."
Kane the centurion: 100 goals reached for Bayern
Kane continues to maintain remarkable individual standards in his own profession, with a notable landmark reached in his latest outing. Another brace in a 4-0 victory over Werder Bremen has taken him to 100 goals for Bayern through 104 appearances in all competitions – with his trophy duck having been broken in 2024-25 when becoming a Bundesliga title winner.
