Jota and his brother, Andre, died in a road accident while travelling through Spain to catch a ferry to England. The tragic incident occurred after their vehicle suffered a tyre blowout, veering off the road. Both were laid to rest in their hometown of Gondomar on July 5, with Liverpool’s staff and squad in attendance.

Liverpool suspended regular programming on LFC TV following Jota’s passing, replacing it with a solemn on-screen tribute. The club described Jota’s death as 'an unimaginable loss' and offered full support to his loved ones.
